ejecting shell casings and accompanying sounds. View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifĪs far as I can tell, Marathon 2 was the first game to have: Doom's auto-aim was more of an annoyance rather than a bonus.Īgreed 100%. Wow, you're one lucky fellow! View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifĪlso with Marathon you actually had to aim your guns at targets, which was much more realistic. I was on the Marathon 2 beta testing team. Am I correct in assuming that there are already playable versions on that site? I'd love to try that BeOS version View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's not really Marathon, but it sure is fun to use that flamethrower and the dual shotguns again View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif It's fun for all those folks that want a little Marathon flavor running on a new engine and w/o having to resort to emulators.
#MAC 68K EMULATOR MOD#
'nuff said.ītw - there is a mod for UT called Marathon:Rampancy and some really sweet map conversions. OK, so maybe you're not playing these games for the story, but it sure added to the atmosphere to try to piece together what was going on through cryptic compter terminal messages, etc. Sounds like a small thing, but the first time I played doom, I was like "Huh? I can't look up?" Marathon: you could actually look up and down, and there were people shooting at you from above and below. Basilisk II is a Windows/Linux/OSX emulator that works as a virtual 68k Mac, and it runs runs Mac OS from 7.x to 8.1. Marathon Infinity (not available for the PC) was even better because it had new weapons, monsters and textures, plus it had Forge and Anvil which allowed you to create your own maps and modify things in the game. The only thing I didn't like about Marathon 2 was that you couldn't jump. Marathon 2 was a very good game and it was one of the first to support true 16 bit colour. I can honestly say with no bias that Marathon 2 had a superior engine and superior gameplay to Doom. I didn't think so but we still had fun playing it. Fortunately, all the classic Mac software we will need is freely available online.
#MAC 68K EMULATOR INSTALL#
My roommate was a MacAddict and he kept touting Marathon over Doom and Quake saying that it was sooo much better. Installing the BasiliskII 68K Macintosh Emulator on the Raspberry Pi - Part 2 Our next task now that Basilisk II is installed is to create a hard disk image and install System 7.
